A circuit that gives you no time to breathe.
The Hungaroring doesn't impress with endless straights. It does exactly the opposite. Corners follow one another, changes of direction arrive with barely a pause, and the driver has to find a rhythm and hold onto it lap after lap.
The circuit measures 4.381 kilometres and has 14 corners. Straights are scarce and overtaking doesn't come easily. That makes qualifying, track position and strategy potentially decisive. The Hungaroring is often compared to a karting circuit — or Monaco without the walls — because every corner sets up the next and a single mistake can compromise an entire sequence.
But the Hungaroring also holds a special place in Formula 1 history. In 1986, it hosted the first Formula 1 Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. In a Europe that was still divided, the championship's arrival in Hungary was more than another race on the calendar: it opened Formula 1 to a part of the continent it had never reached before.
And around 20 kilometres from the circuit is Budapest. After the noise and concentration of 70 laps come the Danube, its bridges, Buda and Pest, and the evenings of a city that turns a race weekend into a journey.
At the Hungaroring, Formula 1 gives you no time to breathe. Budapest gives you every reason to stay.
