Spa-Francorchamps doesn't feel drawn onto the landscape. It feels born from it. The circuit rises and falls through the forests of the Ardennes, while elevation changes, high-speed corners and weather that can shift from one part of the track to another give every lap its own tension.
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps measures 7.004 kilometres — the longest circuit on the current Formula 1 calendar. Its World Championship history goes back to 1950, but the circuit's origins are older still: early racing used public roads connecting Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot. Today's circuit is shorter than the legendary old course, yet it retains something essential from its character: speed across unforgiving terrain.
And then comes the image almost every Formula 1 fan recognises. After La Source, the cars descend towards Eau Rouge before immediately beginning the steep climb through Raidillon. For a few seconds, the track seems to disappear over the crest before the cars are launched towards the Kemmel Straight. It is one of the sequences that has defined Spa for generations of drivers.
But the Ardennes add another variable. At Spa, rain can fall over one sector while another remains dry. Strategy can change within a single lap, making an already demanding circuit even harder to predict.
Spa isn't simply one of the places where Formula 1 remembers its history. It's one of the places where you can still feel it.

Because a Formula 1 weekend is about more than Sunday’s race.
