Singapore changes as night falls. The buildings around Marina Bay light up, the streets become part of the circuit and Formula 1 enters the landscape of a city that seems made for the night. Here, the lights aren't simply a backdrop. They're part of the experience.
In 2008, Singapore hosted the first night race in Formula 1 history. Since then, the Marina Bay Street Circuit has become one of the championship's instantly recognisable sights: cars racing beneath the floodlights, the city skyline behind them and a street circuit running through the heart of one of Asia's most spectacular cities.
But the beauty of the night conceals a demanding race. Tropical heat and humidity, walls close to the track and a relentless sequence of corners turn the Singapore weekend into a test of concentration and endurance. On a street circuit, mistakes have very little room to disappear.
And when the chequered flag falls, the city carries on. Marina Bay remains illuminated, Singapore stays awake and the Grand Prix experience continues beyond the circuit. Here, Formula 1 doesn't just light up the track. For one weekend, it lights up the entire city.
